This dark chocolate and hazelnut treat was served with a side of icecream. The dark chocolate and hazelnut part, dusted with unsweetened cocoa, was lovely and rich. Unfortunately it was somewhat spoiled (for me, anyway) by a hidden layer of caramel lurking underneath. I suppose caramel has its place in the dessert world but that place is not in my dark chocolately desserts, messing up the taste experience with its cloying sweetness. Ugh. I like my chocolate cake dense and just a little bitter, like my men.
This cake was purchased from the Coffee Club in Riverlink, Ipswich, Queensland. It's a nice location with a view of the river, and the staff are friendly, though there aren't quite enough of them when it's busy.
