The word "macaron" always reminds me of this song, which is possibly the worst song of all time, so that may colour my view of macarons somewhat. Not enough to keep me from trying this one from McDonald's McCafe though.
Since it came from McDonald's my expectations were not terribly high, but it was pretty good. The texture was a little chewier than I like macarons, but the filling was deliciously smooth. It was sweet but not really very chocolatey. I might give one of the other flavours a try next time.
McDonald's McCafe sells macarons for $2.50, or six for $10. They also have a selection of cakes and what I'm told (not being a coffee drinker myself) is decent coffee. It's nice that they actually sell something that I can eat (the regular McDonald's menu being a no go for vegetarians) while my children play in the McDonald's playground.
