After giving some poor reviews on Hotel Chocolat's website about some of their Easter chocolates, I received a customer services email that apologised for my disappointment, and offered to send me two complementary Selector Truffles. I was very impressed by how well they treat their customers, and feel it only fitting to now thank by saying how utterly wonderful the compensatory truffles were.
They arrived in a nicely printed box, featuring their logo, and with a card inside giving an apology'. There were accompanied by the two Selector boxes I had chosen, which consisted of six truffles each. These are usually £3.75.
Summer Cooler has a name that gives no hints as to what it may be, but is undeniably fitting. A beautifully white speckled shell conceals a white chocolate ganache infused with apple, cucumber, and mint. An odd combination for a chocolate; it is one more in keeping with a yoghurt based sauce or cocktail, yet worked perfectly. All the flavours were subtle, but gave a distinctive and refreshing taste. It had crisp, but at the same time, a very rich texture. You would only want one or two per sitting.
Raspberry Smoothie is rather more obvious in its description; a 40% milk chocolate shell is topped with dried pieces of raspberry, and has a zingy raspberry ganache inside. Both are excellent new recipes to this year's summer menu.
