Cocoa Loco Organic Dark Chocolate Brazils

Chocolate and nuts go together incredibly well, as demonstrated by the ever popular Nutella chocolate hazelnut spread. If you're a fan of hazelnuts then great, but I've recently discovered a yummy, and organic brand which transforms the humble Brazil nut into a delicious treat.

Cocoa Loco's Organic Dark Chocolate Brazil Nuts (£3.99), are an alternative healthy and yet indulgent snack, I found in Eighth Day Vegan co-operative store. They're in the confectionery section, but I can understand how people might view them as 'too healthy' - they're organic, raw, and dipped in dark chocolate. I love that they're a simple product, and it's only the addition of dark chocolate which transforms them from plain nuts, to a luxurious snack.

I'm calling them a snack, but they make a brilliant dessert too. I crushed six chocolate-coated nuts and crumbled them on top of a scoop of organic vanilla ice cream - it was divine. Equally, you can add these to a fruit salad, or stirred into some Greek yogurt, for an even healthier dessert.

Too-often to advertisers claim their snack is made with 'quality' chocolate, but in the end, it's a less than acceptable, overly-sugary type of chocolate which puts me off the whole product. Thankfully, Cocoa Loco mean it when they say they are purveyors of organic farming, and only use fair-trade chocolate.

Currently, there is a debate about exactly how 'fair' fairly-traded goods are, but Cocoa Loco are upfront about the ingredients they use, and the quality of their ingredients. Regardless of what they say, or what's printed, the proof is in the pudding, and thankfully these chocolate-coated Brazils are yummy. Even my young niece is a fan, and that's some feat - she only likes milk chocolate.

For a low-sugar, high protein, natural treat, why not give these a try - you'll be glad you did.

Find a pack of these beauties in Eighth Day co-operative or any of the WholeFoods stores. If you don't live near the above retailers but these dark chocolate brazils via the Cocoa Loco website ; they're a little bit cheaper online too.
