HC Tasting Club Fortified Selection

For a number of years now, I have been a member of Hotel Chocolat's Tasting Club . You have a choice of six chocolate collections, which will be sent to you on a either a monthly, bi-monthly, of three month basis. The collection will consist of a variation of truffles, batons, and slabs, which you can taste, and score.

It hugely fun and very delicious; perfect for sharing with the family after dinner. The collections are £20.95 each and include the classic (a mix of dark, milk, and white), all milk, dark, Fortified (liqueurs), Elements (non-alcholic), and Purist (made from rare cocoa).

My regular collection is the classic, but occasionally you get money off deals, which lets me try other boxes too. On this occasion, I was able to get the Fortified collection at over 50% off.

When you sign up for the first time, you get a similar half price introductory offer.

Each month (or however often you decide to have them sent), you get a different selection of chocolates. The box comes with a menu describing each chocolate in a slightly over-pomped up manner, and listing the chocolatier who came up with the recipe.

Attached to the menu is a score card, which you can either send off in the post, or fill in online. These results are then revealed in a newsletter with comments from other members.

In this Fortified Collection, I received thirty liqueur truffles (fifteen varieties), which all scored between seven to ten. The included chocs such as the Buck Fizz, Peach & Amaretto, Amber Elderflower, Espresso Martini, Moltov Cocktail, Sipsmith Gin, and many more. Their alcohol levels are rated from light to 'knock your socks off'. On some occasions that description is very accurate, but this time round, I didn't find any that overpowering.

The box also include a number of provenance cards that explained the origins and history of different spirits, such as Poire William and Bourbon.

If you like your spirits, then this box will certainly raise yours.
