Montezuma Jar Bars
For true chocoholics, there is nothing more indulgent than one of Montezuma's
Jar Bars . Made to order, these 600g jars cost £16.99 and are beautifully packaged in an airtight sealed glass container. Unlike with a cardboard box, you can all the chocolate on display. This makes it all the more gorgeous looking, but also harder to resist.
I ordered two j out of their seven options. The first was Peruvian Milk with Pistachios & Cherries. They describe their Peruvian chocolate as 'just about perfect'. I disagree. I describe their Peruvian chocolate as 'absolutely perfect'. With 44% cocoa solids, it is creamier than heaven. The extra thick chunks make the melt last all the longer.
The Iranian pistachios add that vital crunch, while the cherries give exciting sour notes with every bite.
The dark chocolate in their Dark with Dates, Walnuts & Pecans, was not quite as good. This chocolate also comes from Peru, but it is not advertised with the same gusto as before. Perhaps that is because it isn't to the same standard? I don't know. The cocoa contents is 83%, but definitely not too bitter. At the same time though, it lacks any real flavour. I can't detect any fruity or earthy notes. It simply is plain. I can't say I was blown away by the nuts or dates either. They were in whole and half pieces, which I think was detrimental in this case. It interrupted the melt, and would have worked better if chopped up.
