Montezumas Chocolate Filled Hearts

Always on the lookout for the best deals, I usually wait until the holiday period is over and the sales start before buying my seasonal chocolate treats. This was how I got half price of two boxes of chocolate filed hearts from Montezumas. One had been created for Valentine's Day and the other Mother's Day.



Each beautifully decorated contained sixteen hearts, divided equally into a white, milk, and dark chocolate shell. The truffles were given names to match the holiday; for example, Valentine's truffles included XOXO, Smooch, and Snuggle, while Mother's Day featured names of Greek goddesses.



In both instances the dark chocolate hearts were balances with a light and refreshing white vanilla ganache. The white chocolate had either (depending on the box) had either strawberry or an almond praline. I preferred the almond because the strawberry tasted too sweet and artificial.

The same goes for the orange in the milk chocolate in the Mother's Day box. The milk chocolate in the Valentine's box had a maple syrup filling, but it was a ganache, rather than runny caramel, which I think made it a bi indistinct in flavour.
