Sainsburys Swiss Mountain Bar

Sainsburys Swiss Mountain Bar

Sainsbury's supermarket has its own branded range called 'Taste the Difference'. As you will expect from the name, this is meant to be their premium food range, so Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Swiss Mountain Bar ought to be pretty darn good.

The first thing I would say about the packaging is that it is attractive, but misleading. Written on the front it says 'Milk Swiss Mountain Bar', so when I bought it for £1.39, I expected a solid bar of milk chocolate. After my first bite, however, I quickly realised there was more to it. I was getting a textured sensation and the chocolate was sweeter than I expected.

I looked at the wrapper again, and on closer inspection, read on the back, 'milk chocolate with almond-honey-nougat'. Now don't get me wrong, all these flavours were very nice, but it was not what I was expecting. This should have been clearly stated on the front of the wrapper, particularly considering that there are with nut allergies. Granted most people who are allergic to nuts are going to pay more attention to the small print before they buy, but the principle still remains.

I was also disappointed that the bar wasn't in thick cubes, but mini triangles, so you don't get a full solid block experience. Then again, the shape does fit in with the 'mountain bar' theme.

My verdict? As long as you know what you're getting, it is a good chocolate bar. Good, but not 'pretty darn good'. I can't say I could 'Taste the Difference' as it was pretty much the same as other confectionary chocolate you get on the market.
