Thorntons Taste of Summer
Thorntons Taste of Summer is a 130g box of fruit filled chocolate banners that costs £3.99. Inside you will find two layers consisting of sixteen batons. There are four flavours, which vary in quality.
The first thing I have to note is that the box is far more luxurious than the contents. They look pretty, and are undeniably moreish for those with a sweet tooth, but the quality of the chocolate shells is pretty standard. Although the milk chocolate has 30% cocoa solids, and the dark 60%, but are very sweet.
The ganache filling is really the highlight here, with the strawberry coming in top of the pack. It is made with freeze dried strawberries, and has a slight sharpness to it.
On the other side of the coin is the orange baton. I tried one of these before reading what it was, and actually thought it was caramel. Had I not later looked at the label, I would not have guessed there was any orange in it, despite orange peel being listed in the ingredients.
Taste wise, the raspberry flavoured baton is almost as good as the strawberry, but in terms of ingredients, I was disappointed. As you'll note, I said this was raspberry 'flavoured'. No hint of real raspberry in sight.
The lemon has some sharpness to it, but that it counter acted by the sweet white chocolate.
For £3.99, they are worth a go, but I won't be going back for more.
